You often hear people refer to girls with such sayings as "she's such an angel" or "be an angel and bend over for me", etc. Similarly, many songs, films and literature refer to girls being angels.

I seem to rememeber all the angels in the bible were blokes: Michael, Gabriel, etc.

So, at which point did angels suddenly become female?

You think you have a problem with that - look at it from my point of view...

You do something helpful for someone, and to show their gratitude, they come out with...'ooh, thanks, you're an angel', or something similar...

Bloody fantastic though if your name actually happens to be Gabriel - stright up!!!

Bad enough when said by someone who doesn't know your name, but folks who know me still bloody say it not taking the p*ss, however, when I just look at them, and the penny drops, the look on their face is ALMOST worth it!!!

Technically they have no sex at all so there is no male or female angels.

If you really want to bore yourself with the details consult the Catholic encyclopedia.

Or Wikipedia for a slightly more wide ranging view

For M&S

Michael was an Archangel, same as Gabriel, Azrael, Israfel, Uriel, Raphael and, not forgetting, Lucifer (Satan)

And i have no problem with being called an Angel......

Ah, OK. Those things that looked a bit like Thunderbird 4 (but white) with big missiles on the nose and flown by girls with purple hair must have been called something else

Now you mention it, I made a model of an Angel Interceptor once

St. Michael.... this isn't just an ordinary St. Michael... this is a fully beatified, whiter than white, large winged, holier than thou, hyper-harp equipped, super shiny haloed, Gucci sandled, with a larger cloud, mate of God, St. Michael.

M&S.... shut up you, condescending bitch!
