Recently, I sold a rather nice set of Lotus branded drinks mats on Ebay, to a pleasant lady in wales. She elected to pay using Postal Orders, and after a couple of days said that she had sent them. A week later, still no Postal Orders. I contacted her to enquire after the payment, to be told that she had indeed sent the Postal Orders and would enquire at the Post Ofiice as to what had happened to them. The answer that came from the Post Office was that the Postal Orders have been cashed. This is the only information I have at present. I honestly have not recived the Postal Orders, and my dilema is, what am I supposed to do now? It obviously looks from her point of veiw that I have cashed the Postal Orders and am lying about it. I can't prove that I haven't and am begining to feel bad about the situation. What should I do?

you either give her the ebay item and claim off the post office.
or you just put it down to bad luck and give her the item anyhow.
depends on wether you do ebay as a business or just for fun
and wether you need 100% POSTIVE feedback

Its not your fault if she was stupid enough not to send them recorded delivery. It only costs 90p for piece of mind.

Ask her for proof of posting and for her to enquire where the postal orders were cached as you havent recieved them!

In future Cheques or paypal only

Dont just give her the item its not your respoansibility to ensure payment reaches you from her-side.

She hasn't paid you, so don't send anything - besides, how do you know she is telling the truth?

Yeah I wouldn't send them.. Need to look out for yourself on eBay or your arse will get bitten off. Tell her to claim from RoyalMail, and as above - she should have sent Recorded!

Dave.

Depends on the value of the auction, personally if it was under a tenner I would send them anyway

Has the lady in question got good feedback? If little or none she MAY be on a piss-take.

This is the answer. If you tell her to report it as a crime then she should believe you when you say that you didnt cash them.

Payapl isn't cheap, but does avoid this sort of hassle.

As a seller, you have to assume (rather unfortnately) that the buyer is always lying.

I sold a rare video via ebay, the buyer paid £20, and when the tape arrived tried to claim that it was not working. When I pointed out that I'd specifically checked before sending it, then the buyer tried to claim that it was a fake copy rather than genuine. Again I corrected her on this, finally she claimed that the quality was so poor that the film was unwatchable. I still refused to refund, despite threats of bad feedback, claims via ebay and small-claims court etc.

About two weeks later, the buyer was selling the same video on Ebay as "mint condition". On checking their auction history, I found that they had feedback from another seller for the same video and that that auction had ended a few minutes before mine. Obviously the buyer had bid in two seperate auctions for the same item, and tried to make me refund her purchase (mine cost more than the other one).

I rarely bother offloading stuff via ebay now.

I really don't see why people do this for so little money - If she'd spent the time working that she did arguing the toss with you she would have probably earned more. If I was her I would have relisted the item on ebay and got on with the rest of my life!

Edited to add: I've had people "forget" to post me the full value for a £3 cd in the past, then have pay for another stamp to send the difference - why bother going to such lengths to save a quid!?

Yes i think if you mailed her with,

Dear Fellow Ebayer,
I regret to inform you that i have not recieved the Postal Order(s),seeing they have been cashed whilst in the possesion of Royal Mail by an unstated and unauthorised person then it appears this would be a mtter for the Police and a course i would strongly recomend you to take.
I am sorry that our transaction has fallen foul of abuse and value your custom, but in the meantime if i could be of any help with the police equiries in the tracking of these people please do not hessitate to get in touch.
As a special favour i am willing to hold on to these items for a month till such enquiries are completed or you are satisfied that i have not received the payment.
When that has been concluded and you are satisfied that i have not recieved payment then we can look at a safer way of us completing the transaction.
Yours............

Ive edited to say, sorry bit forceful there,if anyone wants to add or subtract to the letter then feel free,i might learn something.

Funnily enough, and again concerning Lotus items (well OK, SD1 tail-lights as used on the Esprit )... I bought osme from a seller with a good feedback record who obviously specialises in SD1 parts. The lights hadn't appeared after a couple of weeks so I emailed and pointed this out.

I spoke to the Post Office who said that as it was outside their 'holding period' the goods would have been sent back to seller (if he'd put a return address, which he had) but they go via BELFAST!! and tend to take ages.

Well several months later and the lights still haven't appeared: the seller kindly offeed to send me some more for free if I paid the carriage but as a matter of principle I declined. It's not his fault Parcel Farce f***ed up so I put it down to the great god Shitappens...

Ok how about this one then

I bought a cossy plenumn and manifold from some chap.
sent him the cash he got it paceled it up and sent it off. between him sending it an me getting it the fecking couriers went bankrupt..

the parcel actualy got to the local depot which was a sub contractor, but instead of delivering it to me as the main co had gone they returned the parcel to the main hub, where it was never seen again...

now I'd paid for it, the seller had sent it. but i never got it not his fault not mine

and its probably still sat in a depot somewhere but after 12 months i dont hold out much hope of ever getting in
