This was on watchdog a while back.

They seem to keep no records of this - it's absolute horseshit. Even if you photocopied your licence before you sent it back they will refuse to give you those entitlements. Apparently you either have to take them again or ride/drive illegally.

I would now never send my licence to the DVLA without a full photocopy. If you still have your pass certificates or whatever maybe send them a copy and ask how they think you got them. I suspect their answer would be "la la la I can't hear you".

Useless cretins to a man, the DVLA.

Personally, if you had proof that you had passed, I would let them know, and if they refused to play ball, continue to ride/drive and 'em.

Here's the report.

www.bbc.co.uk/watchdog/reports/transport/transport_20050906.shtml

They had a biker on (anonymously) saying he was going to keep riding. It does say that they keep a record for 3 months so if it's within this time you might be in luck.

What a shower.

they said they have records going back to 1990 but I passed my tests in the 1960's!

moral is NEVER send in your old paper Licence even under pain of Death!, or get your MP to witness it!, this has just cost me my job, House and other things too and they don't seem to even care

Seriously?? What's the timescale with all this? Recent? They may still have your licence.

Get on it now, contact :

1) anybody who may have had a photocopy of your licence for any reason
2) your MP
3) papers
4) watchdog
5) autoexpress watchdog type pages
6) telegraph/times motoring pages

Don't let it slide. These arseholes are utterly incompetent and couldn't care less.

I have to say I wouldn't be letting this slide especially if it was going to cost as much as it seems to be costing you.

Surely you're alright (in theory) as long as nobody wants to see your licence? Some of the people on the BBC report hadn't noticed for months...

Phew, just checked mine (had it a couple of years) and it's OK, I'm still a biker

Sounds like the usual sort of back-door f***-up that this Govt. and its departments are good at.

Even more worrying are the people that receive extra entitlements, was an old dear on Watchdog who was entitled to drive tracked vehicles

Surely they have record of when you passed your test? Doesn't that remain on your licence? If so then common sense would say to give you all applicable vehicle that were available at that time.

I hate the DVLA. They're shit. Childish but sums up all my thougts towards them.
