The UPVC salesmen are out again
Discussion
Bah, they've started turning up again. One of the dangers of having the only house in the street with original wooden windows and doors is that they flock to my house like a moth to a flame.
Why don't they guarantee their windows for 100 years? Thats how long mine have lasted.
Anyone got a flame thrower for sale?

Next one that comes round to us will be invited in. They can go on for about four hours, which is fine by me - saves some other schmuck having to listen to their rubbish, and then I can tell them to fornicate off.
Except, we're living in a caravan, so strangely they don't seem to want to sell us any windows. We'd really rather like double glazing, it's flippin' cold at night

Mrs cone could sell you a conservatory to go around it - ill get me coat .
Much to my shame, I used to work for Staybrite selling door to door. In my defence, I was still in my teens, needed the money, and it seemed like a good idea at the time.
However, I only lasted a month and never sold a single pane.
My experience is that these guys are total crooks. We were trained to say any old bollox to get a rep in the door, and encouraged never to take no for an answer.
My advice, therefore, would be to politely, but firmly, say 'no thanks' and shut the door.
But at the same time bear in mind that lots of the younger ones are in the same boat as I was, and don't know what they've got themselves into. Being told to f off 50 times a day is depressing after a while.

Ah Staybrite, once we had the misfortune to get one of their reps in the house. Not my fault and Mrs FiF afterwards apologised for the once in a lifetime error on her part.
Anyway after the 5th NO get orf moi laaand, he used the "can I use your phone to see if he had anymore calls.
Cheeky bar steward handed me the phone to receive an attempted haranguing from his boss because I'd had the audactity to attempt to throw his salesman out.
He got told a lot worse than what minimax said up there ^^^^^

Sounds like them.
The head honcho at my branch actually told me - in as many words - to say anything to get a rep in there, and then he'd stay for five hours until the hapless victims would sign anything to get him out of there.
Hmmm, ethical.
Just the other day I was coming out of Focus DIY wearing my corporate fleece with my double glazing companys logo on it, well known in Derby. I was accosted at the door by one of those poor sad figures that have to sit on a stool in front of some double glazing POS, drumming up business. She started to say something, clocked the logo, and I was most gratified to hear "Oh, some quality there, not like this crap!". Very true, and the most honest thing she'd said all day probably.
I dont do cold calls
I dont do deals
I dont do finance
I dont do cheap
I dont do BOGOF
I dont do any of that crap that 99.9% of the marketplace does
I
ing hate my industry and almost everyone in it
But I do alright because we are absolutely nothing like the usual scum
