G/F read the book and said it was good so I read it too and thought it was worth reading and an interesting read. Whether or not the film does the book any favours remains to be seen. But there again thats about par for the course when reading any book first.

I didn't think it was that bad. But I didn't think it was that good, either.

It was an interesting premise (not an original one, apparently) wrapped up in a fairly average thriller. With a few predictable twists.

Probably just the contentious subject matter that made it the best seller rather than the quality of the novel.

Whereas the recent hit King Kong was completely factually accurate... Do you only watch documentaries?

I think the 'Code' might make a good film. The book even reads like a trashy but enjoyable action film.

What makes you say that?

It's entertainment, a book you can read and say "ooh i never knew that" at some of the research. Yes the story is far fetched, and not necessarily true, but it's a damn good read when you're sitting by the pool on your holidays with a cold beer.

I've read a LOT worse, from some supposedly high class authors. I think the film will be great, high budget, good cast, and a decent storyline to go with it. I'd also imagine that some of the location shots will be quite breathtaking.

Most of the people who I've talked to about it, who didn't enjoy it, cited the reason as it's all bullshit, and half of it's not true.

My friend, that's the point, it's a work of fiction, and in my opinion, a good one at that.

I think it will be a let down, every film made from a book like that always lets me down. I read the book The Beach about 2 years before the film came out and I went to watch the film and it was utterly crap, same with Lord Of The Rings and I reckon this will be the same. Will be intersting seeing Dr Who as an albino monk though.

Err.. why?

The whole premise of the book is based on well documented and authenticated bullsh1t...

It's a work of fiction, not fact.

probably because there'll be another wave of people (those who can't read, and didn't get it first time round) who've been to the cinema and come out thinking

THEY LIED, THEY LIED DAMN YOU ALL - JESUS WAS BLACK

or something along those lines

I agree I can't think of any film that was better than the book.

My friend scored a part as an extra in the da vinci code though, I might eventually get round to watching it on DVD to see if I can spot him.

He was black too?

(I thought the book was about the fact that he knocked off Mary Marylebone or whatever her name was and there were lots of little Jesuses running around the South of France. Or some other such cobblers)

I dunno, were they?

Like all good religions they're not going to pass on the opportunity to screw some money out of people - in this case the film makers for a decent location shot.

All jolly interesting, but it does not hide the fact that the whole book is based on premises that have been proved to be rubbish,. And even when shown these facts Dan Brown still won't accept them.

If you can take away the fact that the book was written by the Author putting together a load of other researchers work into a book of complete and utter fiction, no facts in it whatsoever (apart from the fact that the things/places/secret societies he refers to actually exist!!), it's a good work of fiction.

But if you have read any of his others, you will see that he has a definate style of writing - the initial call in the night, being whisked off to another country; wild goose chases; hero and heroine fall into bed; etc; etc; etc.

As for the film - Tom Hanks is totally the wrong person to play Robert Langdon - their first choice of Bill Paxton or Russell Crowe would have been far more in keeping with this characters description in the book, unless of course Tom Hanks does a Tom Cruise (for Lestat in Interview with a Vampire) and totally alters his appearance!!

As for the Church allowing filming........

Westminster Abbey said:
Officials from Britain's Westminster Abbey refused to allow filming to take place in the Abbey, claiming that the book is "theologically unsound". Instead, the filming will take place at Lincoln Cathedral in eastern England.
