The manager on our new site has been told by BT that the site cannot have broadband because it is 1000 meters from one exchange and 750 meters from another.
They will need to get it installed for lots of new tennants that are coming, and i obviously have a vested interest, I think they are looking at a Satalite Broadband system.
Anyone here work in the Telecoms industry got any bright ideas as to solving the problem?

Do you have a post code or Phone number? If you do I am sur you can pump it inbto the BT site or other BB suppliers and they will tell you whether you can get it.
I live right on the suburbs of a town and it was just over 5kms from the nearest BT exchange and they couldn offer me BB, altough NTL could through Cable. The company I work for have got BB and Are near enough the same distance from the Exchange as me
confused yes.

Try using the postcode / telephone number checker on someone like www.nildram.com, see what that throws up.
See if the MOD have any spare fibre pairs you can use. Most bases are fibred up to the eyeballs. Failing that, there will be service ducts that you could use to run a private fibre back to the main DP. Another option is something like LaserBit if you have line of sight. There are lots of options without using satelite, just need to know a bit more about what is allowed and what isn't.
Give these a shout, [urlwww.squaremileinternational.com/index.html[/url]. They work mostly in marinas but you never know. The marina I work in is about 4 miles away from the nearest BT exchange, and lots of people have in the area use them without a problem. You never no, they might be able to help.
I'm not sure what BT are on about - ADSL should be easily achievable over such a short distance - unless there is some other problem ? No compatible phoneline, perhaps.
If BT refuse to install broadband for some reason no other broadband ISP will be able to.
You could get fibre installed to the estate, then connect each building up to it. It's worth speaking to someone like BT, COLT or Easynet and seeing how much a LES10 (10mbit) or LES100 (100mbit) will cost - probably lots, but if you can "sell" it on to the tenants for say £1k/pa (and it will be a true 10mbit not 2mbit at 20:1), then you might be able to cover the cost or make a small profit..

In our last office we replaced two dedicated mainframe landlines, goodness knows how much PC network stuff and all the BT voice/fax lines with one microwave link to a communications mast on top of the local BT exchange. That was about 1km away.
Maybe a wander about with a pair of binoculars and see if you can spot a likely comms mast is in order. Risky if the military connection makes that a nono.

You'd be able to get a high bandwidth product off either of these exchanges - I live @ 3.7km from my local exchange and there's no problem with mine. I think I'd go back to BT and ask again - they've got it wrong.
