OK guys, I'm after alternative stag-do ideas.

Time: around April.
Duration: Fri-Sun at most.
Cost: needs to be under £200 each.

Current thoughts have been:-
- NOT just a general piss-up - not my style, not exactly inventive enough.
- Weekend break in Europe somewhere. Again not 'get-drunk and go to strip-club' style of Prague or Estonia, but something a little different - beach resort somewhere which'll be warm, or somewhere with culture, e.g. Berlin. THEN go out on the lash!!!
- Stay in UK, go on activity-style stuff - Karting, Clay Shooting, Paintball... - caveat is that 2 best friends won't do karting (one with recent neck op, one doesn't like it), and the neck-op will preclude clay shooting as well...although if that's only 1 activity out of 3 or 4, then not so bad.

So...what else is there?!?
Likes amongst the group are a mix of cars-type stuff and outdoors-type stuff. Would also be nice to be near-enough to major city/resort to use hotel there as base and go out there that night...well, probably, depends what else there is.

Cheers all,

Martin

your budget is limited for stuff like a sailing weekend abroad. What about going to a foreign GP? Flasher's stag do was in San Marino this year and worked out quite reasonable (although over £200 each)

Had a good one at a mate's stag - went to Wyboston lakes for the day - Off Road driving, quad bikes, water skiing & wet bikes. Great fun.

Cost was in the order of £90 per head IIRC (inc. lunch)

Back to Cambridge afterwards to the hotel then out for beer & food

Never seen those two words in the same question together!

If you want any hope of going abroad and getting the bill in below £200pp, I'd make up your shortlist of destinations by looking on various low fares airlines websites and seeing whats available, as unless you get a decent cheapy fare to a decent destination, UK its going to be.

You could also buy a copy of a lads mag such as FHM as they are filled with ads in the back for stag do companies, which should give you some ideas if nothing else.

Ok, here's what I'd do. You have to find a really remote bit of coastline, like Greencliff (south of Westward Ho!) circle your wagons, set up your camp and build a large fire with all the wood you can find, beforehand you will have got a load of meat, spuds, prawns and wine. Sit around your large fire drinking hot wine and eating burnt stuff telling each other your stories.

That is proper male bonding and would make a class stag do.

Did this in Devon - awesome. Too cold in Feb though.

I'll leave the 'male bonding' to you, if that's all right LM!

Ahh, you're either a proper man or you're not. My mates all got dinghys with outboards and larged it up a river until it got to shallow, put all the boats in a circle propped up by their oars, threw a tarp over the top and went in the pub and got shitfaced before making a massive fire, etc, etc. Camped out under the boats.

People who live in the country, eh?

Gotta agree.. Go and do a Ray mears for the weekend. Can have the potential to be the best weekend you will ever have, especially if it's with a good group of lads...

River boating, Thames or similar - 2 of the best ones I have been on were this (one of which was my own). You do not need to plan much else, get up drive boat a bit stop at pub (amazing how many pubs sit on river and have moorings) get drunk, drive boat some more a bit drunk this time and stop at next pub, drive some more, drop anchor in a town go for curry then onto pub, back to boat .... and repeat.

Too much planning usually kills a stag, worst one I went on was planned to the minute and it was a nightmare.

It's outside the M25. Could be bloody Timbuktoo for all I know, chap.

Greencliff is most certainly worth the drive, either that or Spekes Mill which has tricky access. Probably not so much wood on the beach though, hell of a tricky drive in your car, a real challenge.

I organised one in Barcelona last year. Really good crack, cheap flights, cheap hotels some clubs and nightlife and some sights to see too such as nou camp (sp) and architecture etc if that's what you want...

Harry Flashman - fair enough, as soon as I get INSIDE the M25 I become lost and confused...

Spekes Mill is another great spot, but the drive is a right bugger (4x4 best), although it is often full of groups of surfers camping out or whatever (it’s a popular surfing spot).
But that’s not necessarily a bad point…

Its weird talkin about local stuff on here

Good suggestion LM, for an alternative on the south coast, hire a small boat and ferry the lads to a secluded beach. One that springs to mind is shell cove between Dawlish and Teignmouth. Only two ways legally to get to it, through the hotel on the land above it which they don't allow, or by boat. Take a shed load of booze/grub, round up the driftwood, and push on til dawn.
If you don't fancy spending all night outside, get a few big cars/vans/camper so you've got somewhere warm and dry to curl up if it gets rainy. If you do decide to give something like this a shout, take a camcorder and let us see the results, they can be hilarious!

Chapmans Pool in Dorset, that's another mission to get to or "dancing ledge" have to take your own firewood though. Never been to Kimmeridge Ledges but I think Kimmeridge Bay would be an option, plus you could see who could find the best ammonite. (PS, all the places I'm likely to suggest would involve me surfing my little heart out, (which is how I know!))

You'd be able to recommend the beaches/cliffs near torpoint as well LM, being local.
Could have a lot of fun down there I'm sure.
