Anyone know about ovens? Our fan oven has just stopped getting hot. The fan starts up and the light comes on when you set the temperature but the element's not getting hot. It looks in fine condition. Any idea how to test it? or could it be something else?

Sounds like the element has given up or it might be the thermostat. Is the oven an oldish model. Or it just could be that the oven timer has kicked in to the turn off mark, but then usually the light indicator would extinquish as well.

Same thing on mine a couple of weeks bacl .Took the guy less than 5 mins to fit a new element.Easy DIY if it's not under any warrenty.Although, when mine went, it tripped out the power supply with it.

Oven's about 4 years old now so not exactly old but out of warrenty. I should add it's got two ovens a top non-fan which works fine and the bottom, bigger, fan assisted oven. I can see the thermostat (long probe with a single wire coming off it) mounted to the top and it too looks ok. Any idea how one could test these? as I'm happy to DIY to save call out charges.

If you can easily remove the element, you can test it with a multi-meter set to resistance (ohms) symbolised by the greek letter omega (as in the watches).

You should get a reading. If it shows infinity or the like then its open circuit and the element has gone to the pictures.
