This was on one of the sky channels last night and I ended up crying.

I think that knowing what's coming next, just makes it funnier.

Anyone else catch it?

Yes. It was on UK gold? Still very funny. Just wonder how many of the comedians of today will be remembered?

I seem to remember a Benny Hill sketch, with two "sacks 'o phones" / saxophones...

Not quite as funny as the fork handles though.

...and the ones where Corbet is trying to finish a sentence, and Barker is helping him by adding funny connotations. Classic.

There was quite a bit of classic 70's comedy on over the holidays. I enjoyed Dave Allan a lot too - some of his stuff was very daring for the time.

Since Ronnie died I have tried to find the fork handles sketch on the internet, without any luck.
Has anybody managed to find it or know of a DVD to buy that includes the fork handles sketch?
An all time classic.

Have been watching some of The Unique Dave Allen repeats on UK Gold (?)... very funny but extremely contraversial, especially back home in his native Ireland.

Allen was EXTREMELY controversial in Ireland - back in the 1960s and 70s, mainly because of his digs at the Catholic Church. Ireland has grown up a lot since those days and I'm pretty sure Allen's style of humour caused far less general upset in his latter years. Indeed, the likes of "Father Ted" could NEVER have been made in Ireland before the mid 1990s.

In more recent years Allen was seen as the prototype for lots of modern "observational" style routines. Many of his stories were based on his childhood experiences of growing up in Dublin in the 1940s and 50s.
