Since my Norton subscription lapsed I decided going on the web at home to be too high risk to my rather expensive laptop!

I also can't get broadband being in the sticks, so dial up is very slow!

Anyway, over xmas I had to go on the web to download data to my GPS "safety" camera device and decided to update my Norton first which took a long, long, long, long, long, long time.

I finished that and then decided to see if could get a web accelerator working that I loaded on my laptop sometime ago. It had never worked previously but did with my new Norton 2006.

Cutting a long story short, this means I can now surf from home with almost a broadband connection speed. The accelerator works by loading less image detail from each web page which you don't even notice until you look at photo images (no good for vixpy's favourite sites I guess ) but the level of detail is still pretty good.

This software is downloadable from the Tiscali website and I just thought I'd share this info with all you frustrated peeps on dial up!

You're not wrong there! I had 2002 which lapsed, tried to renew with online download, failed and I bought a complete 2006 version for the same price from PCWorld - it took flippin' ages to get it on and working!

This speedy-uppy software - is it a Tiscali only thing or does it work with any connection?

Here's a linky dink to their latest version of it. It's a free download.

View or download an image and you will see how it works.

For strict data, its a smart solution mind you, but when broadband is £10 a month...

And consider using Mozilla Firefox as an alternative to IE..

I thought PH was a solely work-related pastime? Why would you spend time on here otherwise? LOL.

Images are still pretty good Matt even at the lowest resolution, admittedly you wouldn't want to print them off to hang on the wall but high res images take a lot of download time.

I enquired about broadband with BT and they said not available in my area, is it possible another provider can supply?

At £10 a month I'd go for that.

Blimey, you're one of the 2%...

If BT say no then chances are you cant, if your exchange is unbundled it *may* be possible but not many exchanges are unbundled.

All the non unbundled ISP's wholesale BT products so BT are best placed to know if you can get it over their wire.

Yes okay, thanks everyone. I may have been being a bit lazy admittedly.
