Londoners - pub/club recommendations
Discussion
I'm meeting up with some old school friends again (about 20 of us, male and female, mid 30s). We're fed up with hanging around in manky old dives in North London, so we thought we'd take our money and drinking legs into the "si'ee".
One of my friends has suggested The Crazy Bear in Goodge Street or Bamboo on Tottenham Court Road. I've looked on the interweb thingy and Crazy Bear looks very nice, but I get the feeling it's expensive (some of us have a smaller budget and I don't want to alienate anyone). I can't find Bamboo on the net.
Can anyone tell me what these clubs are like?

You won't with that spelling
www.bam-bou.co.uk Fantastic restaurant and has a bar on the top floor but it's not exactly value for money.
There's a good bar round the corner - The Couch on Dean St, 5 mins walk from Tottenham Court Road.

Thanks for the link. Bam-bou doesn't really look like my cup of tea - a bit TOO trendy for me. BUT... The Couch has some really good reviews and is really easy to get to by train which is good because we're coming from all parts of the country.

When you're done there, cab to Turnmills.
Plotloss, I went to The Gallery the Friday before Xmas. Are there always more guys there than girls a la Trade??
Unfortunately it seems to have gone that way of late.
It used to be a decent 50/50 grown up crowd but the door policy has become somewhat lapse I suppose primarily because there is little trouble, certaintly in my experience, at The Gallery whatever the mix.
Its not quite trade though
Find a corner, a big smile and a couple of cuties to dance with and its still a belting night.
Was in Cocoon on Air Street the other night and was quite impressed, all designer interior but also good food and friendly staff. If you want somewhere to dance you could do worse than Umbaba on Ganton Street.
If you want something east of the west end, try "333" at 333 Old Street, or alternatively just head to Hoxton Square

Another vote for Cocoon from me. Good value, cool but not stupidly trendy and nice food.

Not sure what the a la Trade means, but if this is a gay bar, I know myself and my female girlfriends will love it... I'm not sure about the blokes though

fluid in farringdon is a top night, intimate atmosphere, two floors funky music and 1980's arcade games if you get bored oh and it's got a beer vending machine too!
These sound like good suggestions. What's the music like? and what sort of age groups are they? (bearing in mind that we are a bunch of old farts)

Trade is the gay night that used to be at Turnmills, it may still be, was on a Saturday but I've been on a Saturday fairly recently and it wasnt Trade.
Trade was a cracking night also though, wasnt unusual at all for it still to be going at midday on the Sunday...

Nope, Trade is no more. Saturday nights are usually Smarty Party (recommended - was free this weekend!), City Loud or Vertigo.
If you want to go clubbing on a gay night (Plotloss - cover your eyes now) head to the Cross on a Friday night (s'ok now Plotty, you can uncover your eyes again).
It's a gay night but there's still a fair few striaght people in there. All in all it's one of better clubbing crowds in there and word is spreading, so much so when I went with Ex Mrs Sleep Envy a few months back straight people were being turned away at the door.
