I liked the quote from a "senior MP" along the lines of "it's not the drink, the country's been ruled by alcoholics for years"

Horrible, insensitive, uncaring, thoughtless.

But incredibly funny.

'In a statement issued from the front steps of his second home (Threshers) charles kennedy,
today,(ogether with his fellow piss artist, and fomer somebody Lawman Namont,)

jointly failed to utter a coherent sentence, while boringly shouting

'My mate is Johny Vagu-us,
I culd have you killed ya basta'ds'

A spokesman for Johniy Walker (PLC)
further clarified the above as;
thehonorable gentlmen, have indeed lunched well, and have become
tired and emotional as result,

Poor Charles

What with all the stress & strains of the last 48hrs, it's enough to drive a man to drink...

Bring back Paddy pantsdown I say - not into his policies but the thought of having a highly trained killing machine as potential PM would make G8 summits much more interesting...

Biggest problem with all parties at the moment is that they're so frightened of scandal that they've elbowed out the politicians with a bit of character & replaced them with the cult of the anodyne...

I agree with that. My favourite politician of all time was Alan Clark.

But......... You can't have a party leader who fails to turn up to the budget debate because he's pissed. (Allegedly)

Churchill for one, Hitler of course didn't drink and was a vegetarian so by illogical association all teetotalling vegetarians are pure evil

The comment I found amusing was

Considering what Bliar has done stone cold sober perhaps we ought to give the boozers a chance"

Not a Lib Dem boozer obviously because then we would all be out of cars and wearing sandals....

Not just the Assassination of another Kennedy - the whole parties doomed!

Half the country think that the Libbies are back-stabbing weirdos, just like the rest of Westminster, and the other half think that they're spineless drips (just like the rest of Westminster) for not getting him out the door sooner!

Just turned the clock back about 80 years, I reckon!

Well it'll be simpler again with two party politics won't it. Tories on the right (all except for their leader) and Labour on the left (all except for their leader) and clear murky reddy-blue water in the middle....

Got to feel some considerable sympathy for the bloke. What amazes me is that the press have "respected his privacy" for all these years, when frankly one might think this really was a matter of public interest as it has clearly been effecting his ability to his job. I remember being distinctly suprised when a friend who worked in Parliament was uncharacteristically vitriolic about him at least 3 years ago. Suggestion was that he clearly had a problem, it impaired his ability to do his job and lost him a lot of respect amongst his colleagues. How can it have been allowed to go on for so long?
