Own up,who's still not done their tax return :)

Me too. Just had the reminder.
Last year I was stuffing it through the letter box at the local tax office on the evening of the 31st Jan..... it was quite funny there were various blokes turning up to do the same, all looking a bit pissed off about the whole thing.

Still got 21 days by my count. Plenty of time!!
love your style, and i thought i was leaving mine till the last minute.
I've still got to sort through the last years worth of paperwork, do the accounts and fill in the form. No problem!! I work round the corner from the tax office, take the documents to them on the last day and the nice man stamps the form to show it was received on time. I have to pay the tax in full so there's no way I'm doing it any earlier than I have to!!

I see, some of you are lucky enough to understand "The tax form",me,i struggle with it
so i do all the workings out on a seperate paper then take that to my accountant for him to check it and transfer it to the form,i need to do it now as the finished form has to be eventually signed by me before it hits the tax office. Ime lucky to have a good accountant,he has written to me twice to remind me and he never loses patience,it costs me three hundred a year but i think he's worth every penny.

Historically I used TaxCalc to deal with it all and it was really straight forward. That's now been discontinued and I think I'm going to have a go with the online system - but if it does what it did last year it'll probably need to be done at 3am to avoid the system crashing!!
I tried the online system a couple of years back when i thought i was having a clever moment, apart from there being something wrong with the site i failed miserably.

Apart from the whole ridiculous getting-a-password business ...
Oli.

Ooh cheers for that - I might have a go with the online thingie (once I've got the password that I requested a few days ago) and if that fails I'll track down the Taxcalc stuff.

Probably do it on the week-end of the 28th/29th ...or the evening of the 30th!!!
'tis plenty of time. Mine got there last year and the year before by registered post on the 31st..... Needless to say I ahven't done mine yet. I have registered this year for the online submission though. Still I live in hope, maybe this year they will owe me some cash!
Ok probably a really stupid question but...
I have been self employed since April last year, running my own Kleeneze business, I have registered with the tax office, and apart from a small booklet they sent me, and a list of tax offices where people will help me, I haven't received anything else.
Am I correct in thinking that I don't need to do one for my first year? should I have recieved anything from them, what am I supposed to do?
Any help gratefully received.

My understanding is,if its not in by the 31st you will be liable to a fine of a £100.
Depending on how much you have laid out on your "business start up" and how much you have made in the first year you might not have to pay anything and might even be due a rebate.
It will be interesting to hear what others say.
