After a discussion on local radio about American schools that may no longer be able to teach the theory of evolution as it may upset christians, a thought stuck me. Obviously this is because some Americans believe that God made the world in 7 days, as is their right to to their beliefs, but is there anyone left out there who still believe the world is flat?

The world is a disk, resting on the backs of four elephants, who stand on the back of a giant turtle swimming through space.

Yes, but without looking it up what is the name of the turtle?

Anyone else read or reading Briefer History of Time?

I am finding it a little dissapointing, as it's objective was to try to simplify things that were incomprehensible in Brief History and Nutshell, but all I am finding is that it is missing those points out and repeating the bits that I understood the first time.

Seems to me that (this thread apart), there may be enough of us interested in cosmology for Ted to set-up a new section!!

Found that about Brief History and Nutshell, laboured obvious stuff and skipped over the more abstract elements.
