Hi...currently cheking otu some tvs for the odl man.

He is keen on the following from John lewis -

Sony KDL-S32 A12 1395 with 5 yr guarantee
JVC LT32 DS6 1395 with 5 yr guarantee

Questions are -

At this sort of level of lcd tv how are they goign to compare to plasma for picture quality...viewing ange...etc?

Can anyone recommned a particular model...lcd or plasma for 1500 or under that can be had preferably with a 5 yr guarantee?

Or to get a decent tv (for main tv) does he need to spend more etc? If so...reccomendations?

I'm not an expert on this subject so if any experts otu there your opinions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

General rule is the bigger the panel the better the plasma quality will be.

So 50"+ then Plasma is king.

Der is your man though.

Indeed. Derestrictor's your man for these questions. Incredibly knowledgeable (rightly so - he makes a living from it!).

I've got a Derestrictor Living Room and I couldn't be happier

If you want the absolute best in picture quality go for a CRT.

The Panasonic TX32PD50C is a cracking set (I own one).

It is available on line for about £740 which leaves plenty for a rather nice surround sound system.

Panasonic or pioneer plasma's are the only way to go.

I wouldn't normally buy a budget brand of anything but am becoming more convinced (decent brands seem these days to be a bit of a lottery and could break down just as easily?) by them, especially as they're often of generic design manufactured in huge numbers and sold under different names.

Anyway, a friend bought a 32", HDTV LCD for £600 which is a great deal!!

i was a little sceptical but seeing it at the weekend, it was very impressive. Looks great, rock steady and fairly sharp picture at 1024x768 (in windows, he's using it as his monitor) even close up as you normally are with a PC monitor.

And it brougth a whole new lease of life to GT4 on PS2. Apparently RGB is a must though.

Can anyone refute my new found love for cheapo brands?
