We applied 2 months ago for a shotgun licence, had our firearms enquiry officer round today, and will get the locker and certificate in a few days. I believe that we cant have a gun holding more than 3 shells at a time, but the magazine can be plugged to limit this. The question I have is what types of shotgun are allowed?

Side by side, over and under (of all hammer types) and 3 shot semi auto's I believe.

You used to be able to have 3 shot pumps but I bet thats changed since Dunblane.

Nope, I have a 3 shot pump. They are allowed too.

Would be a bit oddto allow semi automatics but not pumps...

You're applying logic where demonstrably none applies...

So you can actually legally own one? Or am I reading too much into this?

My chum has just got a benelli something pump with 8+1 - I had a go just before Christmas. No idea what type of FAC he has though.

Absolutly nothing like the real thing. Clicking a mouse does not compare to letting two barrels fly and smashing up some clay discs...and with 10shots..mmm heaven

P.s.I am not a gun freak..yet

Shotgun cert allows 3 shot semi autos.
More than that and it's a firearms cert job.
Farmers I used to shoot with all had FAC's so would happily ahve 5+shots at an escaping clay.
I had to be accurate with an over and under with full and 3/4 choke. Handy for Down the Line, but required real skill for skeet! V HAndy for bagging (real) pigeons with though!

Haven't shot for years now - police wern't really keen on me taking the shotgun to uni so I flogged it....

Plotters do you still shoot then?

Shotgun certificate upto 3 shells.
FAC unlimited capacity pump or semi auto shotguns but you must have a good reason (e.g. member of UKPSA) to own one.
