I'm 17 in August, can't wait as I can finally drive. Problem is my dad originally said he'd give me about £5k towards paying for a car and insurance, and now hes denying he said that and trying to get out of it .

I have my heart set on a car, a GTM Libra (1.4 engine), but I reckon I need about £6.5k to buy a nice one, then another £1.5k to insure it (ignoring all other running costs). So I need to get about £8k together by August. I have about £1500 atm, I'll be selling my bike (£1200), a load of stuff on ebay (hopefully totalling £300+, including my whole CD/DVD collection ), about £800 in presents/pocket money (divorced parents, and I get £100/month from my dad ) and about £200 from other sources, but that still leaves me £4k short. Bugger .

I'll get a job this summer, but it won't make me £4k - I need time to do work, and also learn to drive! Maybe £500-£1000, dependant on what job I can get. Heres where you guys come in. PH has a huge wealth of knowledge, so I want suggestions for ways I can make money, anything, literally. I'm sure you lot can come up with something...please?

Hmm.... the best way would be to work at your Dad

If he doesn't budge, try an increase of Monthly payments between now and August to about £500 that way he will feel less of a blow and it's better for all of you!

I could do with a job aswell.. if that one is still going Chris I can send you my CV before m1 get's his hands on it

Dave.

Use his feet?

If not he could threaten to bite their legs off

If you're funding the purchase by selling everything you own rather than from saved disposable income, and the insurance is £1500 a year , petrol and maintenance costs will add up too, can you actually afford to run it after you've bought it?

Well i was going to suggest not drinking to save the money but as you're 16 and n half that's not an option..... I found 2 quid down the back of my sofa so, by my reckoning, you only have to look down the back of 2000 sofas and you're quids in.

Your dad was going to give you 5k!? When I was 17 my dad gave me a clip round the ear and changed the locks
