After a post on PH a few days ago I paid for my own Experian credit check.. JC, what they know about you!

Thing is, I had to agree to the £5.99 a month, which includes an email or SMS if there is any change on the record (applications for loans, credit cards etc). I can cancel within the months trial period but does anyone else use it and is it worth the £5.99p a month?

I kinda think it is £5.99 worth of peace of mind..as long as it works if the fraudsters get to work with your details.

BTW my bank caled Friday afternoon to say there had been unusual spending on my card (less han 2 hours after I had hit the sales), which reassured me that they are vigilant, although a friends bank rang to say an application for a card and a change of address had been made on her account.

I thought that you could simply pay a one-off payment of £1 or £2 - basically a 'token' payment to get a copy of your credit file as it stands at that point?

You can get it for free, but they want you to subscribe to monitor your account.

£5.99 a month seems like an awful lot for something you're going to use very infrequently? Is the selling point that you can access your credit records at any time? Is that something you will be doing weekly or monthly? I can sort of understand the peace of mind aspect from fraudsters. If you are very careful with your personal details anyway, that shouldn't be a huge cause for concern, should it?

Think thats overkill. Surely you can just check it periodically and still be well ahead on cost......alternatively you could pay me £5.99/month.........
