I am entertaining a possible home purchase. Below are some possible candidates. Two are older homes with the rest being new or fairly new. I am asking folks here the same thing but would value some "far away" people's opinions.....thanks!

Edited to add: I am NOT TRYING to rub these prices on you all; I know the UK costs more...please don't take this as such

I like the first and last ones, more character. Although oddly neither have interior photos?

How do you have 2.5 baths? How does half a bath keep water in?

I like the prices, you can't even get one bedroom round here for that.

I like the exterior of this one best, the others seem a bit stark & soul-less but that'll come down to personal preference as much as anything. Pity there's no internal shots of that one to compare with.

Oh yeah, and the prices are roughly equivalent to what I paid for a 1 bed flat

By the way, I notice the realtor blurb refers to 'half baths' - wtf? I thought perhaps just a wc/sink but the picture does indeed show a bathtub in a half bath so... translation please!

Half baths refer to a sink and toilet only; also, sometimes it refers to a full bathroom that has only a shower instead of the usual shower-bathtub combo.

I like one and four, but thats just my personal choice.

But love the prices of them all. I'm paying considerably more than that for a barn that still needs converting.

Q. So then Jim how did you come about purchasing your house?

A. Oh, I let a complete bunch of strangers on a motoring interweb thingy choose it for me!

I wish that I could cope without seventeenth century pubs, real ale, the West Pennine Moors, twisty B Roads and pudding, chips, peas and gravy.

I live in one of the less expensive parts of This Sceptred Isle, yet it still looks decidedly pricey compared to the US of A.

You want an opinion?

They all look great.

For the money it makes the UK look decidedly unattractive.

The house I currently own was found on the same website I am posting now. Great way to narrow a search! We moved to this house in August 2000.

Like I said, I like opinions. As much time as I spend on this site, I don't consider some of these folks strangers, even if I have not met them.

What amuses me are the "style" descriptions that say "French".. whoever wrote that has never been to France!

I am sad to report that I have abandoned Wigan for the delights of Lancashire and now live near Houghton Tower, where King James I had rather a good piece of beef in 1617 and knighted it 'Sirloin'.....

I have to confess that it was a pretty close call as I found myself inexplicably drawn to the charms of Platt Vegas, like a fly to a piece of shit.

For what I paid for my small piece of Lancashire, I could have bought a sizeable mansion in Platt Waz, but search though I tirelessly did, I never managed to find one.

And before some irritating little tosser comes along and berates me for belittling Platt Bridge, I'll have you know that my mother comes from Bamfurlong...

No. 4 looks the most appealing , looks light inside and has better "kerb" appeal than the others.

It appears #4 is in the lead. I know it has more character but it is in an "older" subdivision. If the newer homes have time to grow gardens and gather history, they will be more appealing.

I prefere number 1. It looks much better than the others IMO and has a touch of class that, the newer houses especially, don't have. We had one of those new houses in Florida for a few years and it just felt too sterile. No atmosphere. The first house has far more character and looks like a proper "home" that would warm you up every time you pulled onto the drive.
