Whistler.

If 2 weeks there is too much, a week at Whistler and a week in Vancouver would be my choice.

British Columbia is quite simply glorious.

Toronto's cool too. Much preferred it to Montreal.

Loads to see and do, a good city to walk round, easy to navigate, and it's really pretty.

My other choice would be Hawaii...one of the islands.

Which would be the best choice...Hawaii or Canada?

Sorry if a bit vague.....having a hard time deciding.

B.C is lovely - did 3 weeks there not long ago : Vancouver , Whistler , Coastal mtns , Vancouver Island , plus there are lots of interesting places inland including Banff and Lake Louise. 2 days in Vancouver is enough IMHO.

best to hire a car and travel round yourself wherever the best weather is - still could be a bit snowy in the mtns in May (?). If its very wet on the coast as it can be at times .... its often drier inland near Penticton ( a wine growing area with a very mild climate ).

Montreal was a bit of a disappointment. Quebec is also nice.

Haven't done the West, but would love to.

My Nova Scotia holiday a couple of years ago certainly has to be up there with the best of them.

I love Canada - been many times now. My advice would be to do what we did last time (having got the measure of the place and accomodation):

Fly to Calgary (horrible place), spend one night there (pick up hire car).

Early the next morning drive to Banff (about 2 hours) and stay at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Stay there for three nights.

Then drive to Lake Loise (about one hour) and stay at the Chateau Lake Louise for three nights.

Then drive to Jasper (down the best road in the world, bar none), it's about 200 miles, and stay at The Jasper Park Lodge for three nights.

Then drive to Vancouver (it's a long drive, but fantastic) and stay at the Pan Pacific Hotel for 4 or 5 nights.

One more tip, always ask for a room with a view - it's surprising how many don't have a decent view.

Yes, I've done that as well. Personally, I wouldn't like to choose between the two. However, I can highly recommend Kauaii (western most island) - it's outstanding and there are less tourists. The Radisson is a decent hotel.

Also, if you like volcanoes and stuff, then the Big Island is a must.

What sort of rooms did you experience in those hotels you suggested?
Did you stay in the suites or ?

Was the quality of the hotels/rooms worth the price?

Oi! Grew up in Montreal. Was it really disappointing?

Maybe I'm a bit biased in favour of it, but it has gone downhill over the last 10 years, so I can't help but echo what's already been said.....

GO WEST!

Calgary to Vancouver through the Rockies. You won't regret it!

Toronto and Niagara on the eastern side - the falls are a bit commercial but still good.
Rockies and Vancouver on the western side - incredible scenery and mostly accessible by car (the Canadians don't want to alienate the tourist dollar from their southern neighbours by making them walk anywhere )

We flew to Vancouver and had 4 days there (hopped onto a Sea plane to Victoria for whale watching).

Picked up hirecar and drove to Kelowna (Wine Region) on Lake Okanagan - 2 nights.

Drove to Wells Grey Provintial Park (superb as 99% of tourist just drive past it and it's 5000 square Kms of Wilderness - there's only one road in and that runs out after 60 Kms, the rest is on foot or canoe!) - 2 nights. www.helmckenfalls.com and www.wellsgray.ca

Drove to Jasper and a few nights there.

Drove to Banff and had 4 days there.

You don't need to stay in Lake Louise as well as it's just a short trip.

The drove to Calgary for overnight before flying home.

Top tip - don't go without pre-booking accomodation, especially near to the National and Provinsial Parks as they tend to be filled by the tourist coaches.

The best part in the Rockies was definately Wells Grey as it's not swarming with coach loads of tourists.

Have a look at my web site for my holiday snaps.....

Wasn't there for long and TBH I'm not really sure what I was expecting. Didn't seem to match up with my (admittedly vague) expectations, though.

Our Honeymoon was a bit like Srebbe's trip, except:
Fly to Vancouver stay a couple of days
Fly to Calgry drive to Banff for a couple of days
Then do lake louise and Jasper then back to Calgry for flight home.

The hotels are fantastic, mainly due to the level of service.

It's not your typical North American city, as it's got a "european" feel about it. You're right though, Quebec City is nicer, especially the older part. The French language spoken there is like nothing you've ever heard before. Even the French (from France) can't understand it - lolol.
