The BBC's White City and Woodlands buildings were both evacuated after the power went out for two-and-a-half hours from 1330 GMT.
Seems a bit OTT - I assume there's some stupid health and safety regulation behind this somewhere?
Yep, it's only the fire, life and safety systems which shut down if the stand by gennies can't maintain power supply.
BBC got their fingers burnt a few times with bombs so a good call IMHO.

Well if they've only got a couple of hours of diesel for the gennies, then that'll do it. (We can run all day if the power goes out, so I wasn't thinking along the lines of losing fire supression, I have to say...)
The terms "power cut" and "evacuation" still strike me as odd bedfellows when it comes to offices though...

There's a longstanding H&S reg that says if the temp in an office falls below 16 deg C it's not fit for working and we can all go home
Two hours would have been plenty long enough for the temp in the office to fall to that level...especially yesterday...
