Am considering getting a thin client/network computer for internet access and VOIP. (hoping to do it lower cost and less hassle than just buying a M$ product). Thinking about embedded Linux or something.
Anybody got any experience of this?

No need to mess about with embedded stuff.

Find a PC stick one of the small Linux distros on it like TinyLinux, install Firefox and a VOIP agent and you are in like flynn.

Of course if you want to go embedded then there are Linux devices available that could be customised, but if you are going to use VOIP then it must have capability to run a handset or have sound management of some kind.

Thanks Plotloss, was thinking similar things myself. Just wondered if there was anything cheap and off the shelf, and simpler than a PC.

Theres no shortage of linux devices, the VOIP maybe the complicating factor.

I'd perhaps look for an embedded linux hand factor device or even a pda with a bluetooth stack and use a bluetooth headset to do the VOIP aspect...
