why are they doing this now?

have labour only just realised how big this problem is?

or are the recent polls showing a slight tory lead, making them try a cynical ploy to go after the wavering voter??

If they were well ahead I couldnt imagine they would push this ( though it bloody needs pushing)

They are doing this now because for the last 2 years they have been developing a new system (IT & processes) to manage the service in a more than effective manner. They have the contractors in a bit of a tight spot by sticking them in the arse end of nowhere a few miles out from Blackpool - they have nothing to do but work.

What it replaces is a hotchpotch of 20 years of cobbling together bits and pieces to make it work rather than addressing the root cause.

About time too. I know a certain individual who has been on permanent incapacity benefit for the last ten years.

He suffers a bad back allegedly but is ok to lift a computer round to me everytime it breaks. Also he has been known to play tennis

I hope these parasitic scum get what they deserve then there would be more coffers in the pot for those that really have reduced quality of life.

Why so long though

As so long as those who are really ill are not forced to work.

Many of the people on IB have serious mental health I can imagine the headlines then someone who was prevoiusly on IB looses it in a call centre and gets a gun and kills loads of people or goes into a school or something.

It is estimated that 2/3 of those on incapacity benefit are able to work, so it is about time something was done about it.

I will make a prediction though whatever Labour announces, the numbers on Incapacity benefit will not go down while we have a Labour governemnt in power.

TBH I would guess it's a bit more than that who could do some meaningful work.

Fortunately the system which is being put in place will be better able to enforce policy set by any govt.

ultimasimon - have you not thought of shopping the scumbag who is doing this? Personally I have no compunction in doing so to someone taking liberties with a system intended to provide for the genuine needy.
