Apple's Indian call centre is an abomination. The worst bit is you spend 35 minutes explaining your issue to someone who doesn't speak very good English, then eventually they transfer you through to customer services in Ireland where you have to explain it all again.

Is it really worth it for the 20p an hour pay savings!?

It is India, as they sent me an email, which quoted location.

I tried to ask them a simple question by email, 5 different people on live help and someone on the phone.
They could not understand my question. Any variation from the norm and they get stuck.

My question was never answered and I was left in a bad mood.

One hell of a lot more than 20p per hour...

For reference, figures a couple of years old but probably not too far off the mark today.

Outsourcing a callcentre agent to a UK outsourcer - the one I worked for was just about breaking even or making a very small profit at £14 per agent hour and would normally charge closer to £20.

An offshore setup in Sri-Lanka that I was aware of was CHARGING £9 per agent hour and making a profit on that...

"hello, is that Mr Morgan?"

"Yes"

"Sir, is it convenient to speak now?"

"No, but if you give me your home number I'll call you back later..."

This seems to work most of the time!

I find "Hang on a second, need to turn the iron off......."

Then go and make a cup of tea or something, that always does the trick.

I called up National Rail the other week to book some tickets and was told that Sheffield isn't a place and neither was Kings Cross.

Was quite pleased with the first bit of that

Did you analyse the cost in lost business though?
