It did make compelling viewing, I have to say I think I would rather have been in the initial puking then dying bunch than the "skin falling down my leg like a loose sock" bunch, didn't sound like much fun at all.

I was a little puzzled by the stiff upper lip British accents though.

Has anyone read any good books about Chernobyl they could recommend?

I was more puzzled by Vivian playing the lead scientist...

I thought he did a good job of playing a straight role. A very chilling approach to the catastrophe, but I couldn't help drawing parallels to the current governments way of handling things.

Bloody job they got the water out from underneath the fire. It did make me think quite hard about how "clean" nuclear power really is.

Bear in mind it was a drama, not a documentary. There were a lot of factual errors in that programme.

The World Health Organisation reckons the mass evacuation and upheaval of thousands of people had at least as great an impact on public health.

I was at school when Chernobyl happened, studying A-level Physics inc. Nuclear Physics so followed it closely.

I'll dust off an old joke from the era...

Q. Why do you need good underpants in Russia?
A. 'Cos otherwise Chernobyl Fallout.

Ithankyou.

i have to admit i found it to be a great program, i liked its style, no big fuss, just getting on with the story.
if the program is to believed, its amazing to think that the mamagement were more scared of their superiors than all that radiation, and that it was harming everyone close by.

i still have photographs of the spectacular sunsets we used to get after the accident, and remember the ban on anything to do with the sheep from the north welsh mountains, due to them eating contaminated grass.

Well, don't forget that the RBMK was an outstandingly shit design in all sorts of ways, even by the standards of the time.

The RBMK design was fundementally compromised to make it capable of making weapons fuel and electricity at the same time.
