Heading to New York for a week

Going on a little break with my better half and was wondering if anyone had any good advice where to stay and what to do.(other than the usual Statue of liberty, etc)

We were thinking of staying right in the centre.
Catch a show(Rocky Horror perhaps )

But any good experiences with places to eat and stay?

what's your budget?

if you can splash out, i couldnt recommend trump hotel highly enough, looking over central park but very expensive for a nice room.

Nice place to eat is Ellen's Stardust Diner, all the waitstaff sing, great food and drink for a relatively average price, Broadway & 51st, it looks like a subway car.
