I have been a lifelong musician and a fan of many artists, but never got my head round the 'Springsteen' genre due to underlying Americanisms it seemed to portray.

Having being forced to listen to him late at night by a good friend on several occasions(post boozy nights normally), last weekend I watched a new DVD of old footage of one of the first ever concerts in the UK (Hammersmith Apollo) with the E-street band – and it was simply superb! The musicians in the band are all front men in their own right (Clarence Clemens takes the biscuit!). And I listened to the lyrics for the first time - this is not pro-USA American dream stuff at all! Quite the opposite!

So folks, late night questions for you musos…. Who disliked a band and never gave them a chance for years, but on listening properly have now realised they are pretty damn good?....

Been a fan since the late 70's and I have every album. The boss is a rock God. The Barcelona concert on DVD is also well worth getting. Awesome performance.

Cheers Unrepentant for letting me know there is at least one fan out there (as I am new!)

Yeah I like a lot of Bruce's stuff, though some of it (like Wreck on the highway) can be interminable dirges.

Born to run, The River, My Hometown etc are classics IMHO. Far from being pro-US, they have a grim reality side to them that few others manage to capture and put into a song that could make the charts.

I wrote off System of a Down for years while I was at school - it was just a name on T-shirts that goths wore, so I assumed they were bollox.
Then I heard them about 5 years back and realised they were amazing.
