What is the best place to get FREE music downloads....?

Tried Kazaa - but I have heard bad stuff about picking up nasties from them....then all my downloads vanished

Napster is 9.95 per month.......

What else is any good??

I know you said 'free' but worth trying allofmp3.com.
Ludicrously cheap, legal, easy and safe!

I'll second that. I'd much rather pay about 80p for an album than worry about legal issues and viruses.

Fourth vote for www.allofmp3.com

Its so cheap its practically free, plus being able to download stuff at varying degrees of quality is a massive bonus.

If your going to use allofmp3 then you may aswell just download it for free from somewhere else because they don't give any of the money to the record labels or artists.

Don't really think that's the issue at hand - what you pay for with allofmp3 is the ease of use. Ability to download a huge (although by no means limitless) variety of tracks at any bitrate and in any format you desire, at a virtually guaranteed good speed, with a nice easy-to-use layout, all for a pittance.

As opposed to Ares or Kazaa or whatnot, where you're forced to hunt for a track, it can sit in your download queue for weeks on end without budging, and six months later when you've finally downloaded the whole album, you discover one of the tracks was carrying a nasty, someone's hacked into your computer and filled your harddrive with horse porn.

It's just not cricket.

Torrents seem to be the way ahead, not many viruses due to loads of people sgaring the files so any dodgy ones get spotted and binned quickly. Bitcomet 6.0 was good but 6.1 is better now as some torrent sites wont let you use 6.0 due to it being too easy to just download and not upload or "seed". Limewire is much the same as kazaa used to be ie straight peer to peer filesharing, some of the old kazaa viruses are on there too. To use torrents go to bittorent.com download it then download your client, ie bitcomet then use sites like torrentspy.com and isohunt.com. Obviously this should only be used for sharing opensource files not downloading series 2 of Lost ar anything like that
