I'm browsing through the DvD isle on Saturday at the Bletchley branch of the UKs largest supermarket. I'm killing some time while my GF is shopping for whatever it was she dragged me out there for....

I spot a copy of Appleseed (the new version for those Anime fans out there :P). Excellent thought I, I will have that one.

Oh wait... no price.

Wander over the the till to get them to check it, where I'm told "we can't sell it to you, its not on the system".

"Fine, can you get it on the system? Its on the shelf and I'd like it please."

After a 20 minute discussion, it transpires that perhaps someone at head office can do something. But not till Monday.

Call back Monday morning, eventually put through to someone in the electrical department. Explain that there was a DvD behind the desk, explain its not on the system etc.

She's going to call me back.

Calls me back "I'm sorry but its not on the system". I Bl**dy told you that!

Eventually, after the third time I'm called back I'm told "its going to take a couple of weeks to get on the system".

"I just wanted the DvD you had sat on the shelf... I had it in my hands at one point... You have it in your hands now."

"Its on the Tescos website for a tenner, can you please bl**dy well sell it to me?"

"no".

I had this once at PC World - I had the item in my hand, but they couldn't sell it to me as their computer system said it was out of stock

And its £9.99 at Tescos... (2005 revised version).

It was originally an impulse purchase and its now starting to become more about the principle than the DvD itself...

In the process of drafting a letter for head office.

Christ!, That is a bargain price! I have just paid £13.99 on Play, but its £19.99 on Amazon! Don't blame you for holding out on this one! Let us know how you get on - -It is exactly like the 'Computor Says No' sketch, isn't it? ridiculous!

Bit like the one I'm holding out for on Amazon, £9.97, but £29.95 everywhere else.

In that case 'puter says yes, just that the single breasted ones can't deliver the goods but keep saying they will - honest guv.

Cynical me thinks maybe they underpriced it and won't sell it at the advertised price...? See if it costs more when it finally does get on ye olde system. If it's more than £9.99, I was right.

Go have a look at Tesco.com, it shows up in teh DvD entry at £9.99.

The entry on their online shopping list shows the old version cover, however the rest of the information is for the "new" version of Appleseed.

The copy they had in store was the new version... gits...

You should have just walked out with it.
If it's not on the system, it can't be theirs, surely?

A Chain in Dublin here has a "If it doesn't scan, you get it for free" policy. Keeps the shop on it's toes. I used to work there during school holidays and such, and several times had to clear off a product for an hour or two until the product was registered. Shops can register a product within 20 mins if they need to. They're giving you the run around for some reason.

Well, other than the security box it was in with the tags to set off the alarms etc.

Oh and the burly security guards.

Aside from that, piece of cake

Did you get Appleseed in the end? Because of this thread, I ordered and watched it last night, the animation is quite stunning, loved it!
(Can't quite see how is only got a 12 cert though, as the 'robots' are graphically shown crushing human heads!!!! lol)
