My 3 month old Black Labrador Bitch seems to have developed a passion for bovine excrement. Is this a fad, a dietary requirement or do dogs just like the taste? Any informed opinion would be gratefully recieved

I think it is just a fad for now. I've heard the new 'in' thing to do is eat chicken sh*t.

They eat their own to aid digestion apparently. (Wonder how they don't suffer from constipation)

It's to get the taste of people's face's off their tongue after they've licked them.

all 3 of my dogs eat anything really that they can lay their paws on, their poo, cow poo, bird poo, and then they look at me funny when I try to clean their teeth

Try giving him a small treat when he leave's it on command. It's the dog equivalent of yoghurt, but with the cocktail of drugs cows get these days, it's not really good for your Lab.

My sisters black lab bitch does this too.

She's nearly 3 (the dog not my sister) and dogs shit seems more accessible than cows.

My dog prefers sheep droppings, and he goes in the garden and eats what the cats leave behind, which frankly makes his breath smell disgusting.

Unfortunately poo contains certain proteins and goodness that is often lacking their diet and aids digestion. Dry food helps as it is easier to digest and also Charcoal Bonios can help I seem to remember. My dog seemed to just grow out of it once he got a bit older.....

....gosh what a serious answer from me, better add that he still goes mad for a dirty nappy if he can get his hands on one though

Mate, dogsh!t may be cure for cancer for all I know but I sure as hell aint going to eat it smelling like that..... so my question is not 'why' but rather 'how can' they eat shit? I mean, you your not going to convince me that it tastes in any way pleasant for a start....
