I was dropping a couple of young ladies off at their house a while ago.

As it was dark, it seemed a good idea to tap the address into my satnav.

What's that...? asked one.

Navigation...it takes me straight to your house if I tap the house number in....

Oooo, that's clever..... said number 1.

No it's not, it'll not find our house..... said number 2

Why not? Asked I.....

'Cos there's no number on our house.......

Woking doesn't show up on mine, nor Scarborough.

I also own a map.

Our house doesn't show up on Sat Nav either, its says there are no numbers available for our road, so as soon as you turn onto our road it says 'you have reached your destination' but you have various farms on a mile of road to eliminate before finding our house.

And our postcode puts us in a village a mile away from here, we always get deliveries ringing up and saying exactly where are you?

Which all supports my contention that you're better off with a map and set of directions from someone who lives there.

Erm....now you're asking. I believe it's Tom Tom 3.

I was assuming I would need to buy upgrade software to fix the "issue" but can't justify the cost of doing so. Or is there a fix I can download?

Give it another 18 months and tomtoms will be selling for that price.

Eventually they'll be giving sat nav systems away for free like mobiles, with contracted subscription updates.

Go to the tomtom website. There is an update that will fix this problem, and its free.
