Sorry to post this at Tea time
The main drain/sewer from my house to the road got blocked recently. Turned out there was a tree root that had caused a stoppage and ....... well you can guess the rest.
WE managed to cut it off and water (erm) is flowing again.
Anyway, I live on a steep hill, so the actual sewery bit is very deep (like about 10 feet) so I really don't want to have to dig the whole thing up. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a robot thingy that can go down and see if there are any more roots coming through? Also, could such a robot thing trim the roots remotely, or is it even possible to slide a "liner" into the pipe to restore a smooth flow?

All answers gratefull received (before I'm up to my eyes in it!

there are plenty firms poke a camera down the hole and it can be re-lined with a sleve that is filled with fiberglass, tree roots can be cut off with a water powered rotary saw.pity you are at the other end of the country

Thats good news then. You never know this technology exists until you need it!
I was envisioning having to design a mechanical mole - Thunderbirds stylee!

I got a quote today for a CCTV survey of my sewer cost £95 per hour plus VAT plus £25 for the tape. Gives a guide price for you. They reckon will be easily able to do mine in an hour.

Well over Christmas I was able to study it at length after I flushed the bog and rather than going down the water level and contents of the bog floated upto to the top pf the rim, but fortunately no further!

Hence the need for a survey of the sewer to find out what blocked it, as I don;t fancy that experience again. Sausages anyone?

My solicitor charges that....

Tell you what.....

If I send him round, you can stuff him through your pipes for a first-hand report.

He'll even write you a letter....
