In touch with my feminine side, and stuck on the M1 I heard two very interesting items on R4 Womens Hour:

They interviewsed the women's minister in Afhganistan. She talked abiout the 'Afghan women's developmnet stategy' and their 'vision' but was unable to say what she was doing about the fact that 64% of marriages are forced marriages, that they have the hghest female and infant materinty fatality rates in the world, that women are given away by families and used by families as 'compensation' for the bad deeds of their men folk and that teachers are attacked for teaching girls (one was beheaded in front of his family). Women are abducted by men just to show that womne have no control in Afghan society, despite having 26% of MPs. Is this country beyond hope? Should we be pushing democracy on them when basic civil rights ae got given to 50% of the population?

Second piece was about a divorced women who involved her kids in choosing her new boyfriend after she divorced because she said she couldn't be with anyone he kids didn't like. This meant no dates alone until a number of dates with the kids had passed. Another woman who felt she wouldn't introduce her kids to the new man until she was sure it was going somewhere. Which is the best tactic?
