Hello!

I'm thinking about spunking away some money in the next two weeks before I start being poor! (in the process of buying first house) and I think I'd quite like a new FX unit to replace my ancient Zoom 1010 (yes... it's crap).

I was thinking of a choice of the following:

- Boss GT-8
- Line6 PodXT Live
- Digitech GNX somethingorother

Anyone got any experience of these? any recommendations would be very welcome!

I quite like the idea that you can link the Line6 up to a PC with a USB cable and play around with it but the Boss stuff looks the daddies... oh and the Digitech one is about an 'undred paahnd cheaper.

I've tried loads of these over the last few years and one thing remains constant. My old Boss BE5. No fancy programmable stuff just ultra-usable knob-twiddlable effects. Despite rack mounted stereo effects, Zoom prgrammables and others, I still always go back to the BE5. For ease of use live (when you don't have a queue of degree-qualified roadies).

However I did try a G7 Zoom in Hong Kong a short while back and it was quite spectacular! I think they're about 250 quid here.

IMO the PoD is a great bit of kit. I have an XT & love it. The FX on the Live sound good but they are pretty subtle - very useful if you are playing live & want usuable tones etc.

If it was my money I think I would go for the Boss - they are the daddy of FX!

I have a Boss multi-effect jobbie. Really complex with about a bazillion different things you can do.

I hate it.

Buy some honest to goodness ordinary pedals that aren't to complicated to work out what they do and enjoy.

Oh Boss pedals are great - I just don't like the botheration of the multi-effects unit.

Hmm... hadn't thought of the new Zoom stuff... might have to try and find somewhere to have a play with that.

I understand what you mean but I'm a bit of a sad git and quite enjoy twiddling nobs and the like. I've already got a few pedals and hate having to change the settings once I've found something I really like... thus with multi-fx I can save them all muhahahaha!

That's what I liked about the Pod XT - it lets you do both, sort of.

i've got the Digitech RP200. it's compact, easy to carry about & has quite a few decent sound effects. of course, i'd rather have a custom-made rack of Boss effect pedals, but for <£150 it does the job. Can't remember who makes it, but the RotaVibe(?) pedal, which makes sounds like the intro to Little Wing, is the poodles privates.

I've got a Pod and its the mutts nuts. It can connect to your PC/Mac via a midi cable and you can manage the settings from the computer, and download presets. On line they have loads designed to sound like certain songs for example.

Is the POD the Line 6 one? I hope it's easier to use than the Vetta amp I used to have - you needed a computer science degree just to find reverb.
