10600 words later, and im a blithering, dreary eyed mess, and I dont think I want to watch Fight Club again.

If anyone else has to do one, START EARLY !

Well done, lucky you!

I'm just getting down to starting mine, which is gonna be due in April.

Anyone know much about foundations of offshore structures?

Nice one!

Mine's not due until the middle of May but got an interim report done a couple of weeks ago. Not many hours sleep that week. Just sorting out a presentation to, erm, present the findings of it. Will be glad to get it out of the way. Then i do feel a beer may be called for!

It's a really long shot but when I was doing a Mats Eng course 5 years ago I remember reading something about the use of advanced composites & crash structures in a number of applications (motor racing being one). The article was along the lines of technology being used was about 20 years ahead of producitno or something like that. The major issue was that being able to decelearate mass or absorb shock in a linear manner wasn't that difficult given appropriate deformation structure & material - in many mainstream applications the technology was too expensive and often sacrificial.

I'm sure it was in one of the Materials Eng & Science journals from 1999 or 2000

Good luck!

Mine's due 15th of May (15-20,000 words), went to see supervisor with plan today and her response was "Normally I understand where people's dissertations are going, however yours has me baffled..."
Now have new title and am starting again...

(edited to add mine's on the right to have a child, thankfully have no more lectures so just have to do an essay and the dissertation)

I'm really glad I didn't do a wordy subject. My engineering PhD thesis currently stands at only 35,000 words and, in length terms at least, is nearly finished.

I think I could have gone on for ages with my one just finding more and more things, and using more case studies, HOWEVER, I am not envious of ANYONE having to write 15000+ let alone PHD material.

Thing is my degree is an arts based one, I never realised at the start how much theory based work we would have to do.

[Digital Screen Arts is the BA im doing.]

Guys, seriously, good luck with the work and just try as hard as you can to do little bits at a time.
Remember, the structure is the key to all of it.
