hopefully this lot all works, anyway its a pretty huge boat, not exactly a looker though. There were loads of folk there watching it. A navy chopper turned up at the last minute, opened its door and sat and watched the launch from the sky, lucky sods!

Just saw it on the news, the bridge superstructure looked it was very close to touching the top of the opening in the building.
The computer simulations said the chains wouldn't be strong enough to stop it crashing into the car park on the opposite side of the river....
They went ahead anyway

often wondered if anyone ever simulated a modern warship with a ww11. warship
high deck armour larger guns versus missiles .........bismarck could run at 31 knots so would be faster but less manoeuverable ??
I wonder that too. Bismarck charging head on should be tough enough to to send Exocets pinging off the sides, and once you got within gunnery range, curtains

they should have asked iain banks to think of a better name for it.
Top suggestion - I love those Ian M. Banks ship names - the Navy could do worse than adopt that style of naming scheme...
Assault Ships:
HMS Did You Spill My Pint?
HMS Did You Call My Pint A Puff?
HMS Did You Spill My Bird?
HMS Did You Call My Bird A Puff?
HMS ASBO
Missile Submarines:
HMS It's All Gone Quiet Over There
Type 42's
HMS No Such Thing As A Quick Run Ashore
etc etc

they should have asked iain banks to think of a better name for it. a (space) ship in one of his novels is called "ask no questions"... or to really upset the enemy call it 'HMS hand of God'
the launch was just on the news, impressive looking thing and no mistake...
