Went to Post Office today to retax one of my cars.
Parked car outside Post Office with the tax disc on the screen that expired yesterday.
When I came out of the Post Office, a young "wet behind the ears" traffic Hitler was leaning cockily on my car waiting for me to return.
The conversation went something like this....

Hitler. Your tax disc has expired.
Me. I know, I have just retaxed it. Here is the new disc.
Hitler. By driving your car here, you have been driving an untaxed and illegal car.
Me. Well, did you expect me to walk here to tax the car.
Hitler. Yes, that would have been the legal way to do it.
Me. Why don't you book me. I would love to see you in Court.
Hitler. Sir, I am a reasonable guy, I will let you go this time.
Me. Oh thank you so much kind sir. I will never ever forget your kind gesture.

PRICK!!!!!!

What an absolute jobsworth.

Why do I think that mine has expired today but I've not received a reminder ....

Bugger - best go check when it does expire.

Also, I believe that you're allowed to drive a car to a post office to buy a new disc as long as you have all of the docs with you.

I don't think so. Ironically, you are allowed to drive an untaxed car to and from an MOT test

Phew - all clear - expires April.

However, Mrs Kinkys expires in 27 days time .... and no reminder yet!

I thought they were always sent 6 weeks before expiry?

I am usually the last to defend traffic Hitlers. However I have to say I think he had a point! You weren't taxed and were on the public road - you were taking a risk! I think he did you a favour letting you off - he could have booked you. If he was a jobsworth he could have given you a ticket (and maybe he would have been tempted to after you spoke to him like that).

I would take serious issue with him leaning on my car though; and the cocky attitude serves nobody.

Seriously, you could have got your tax any time over the last couple of weeks!

Cheers Trace.

I wonder how long it will be before they stop sending reminders altogether, with the onus being on you to remember when it is (ala MOT) .... and if you don't do it on the day - you get whacked with a £250 fine, etc, etc, etc .....

Can only be a matter of time.

All in the name of government efficiency you understand.
