Just reported on Channel 4 news
A secret memo details a meeting on 31st Jan 2003.
Bush proposes to Blair that given the lack of WMD evidence they could send an American U2 recon aircraft painted in UN colours with fighter escourt to low fly over Iraqi Airspace to encourage Saddam to shoot it down and so create a material breach to resolution 1441!

Are these nutters for real?

Why bother with a fighter escort then?

Don't worry, I'm sure this sort of international gamesmanship has always gone on. Like Germany only attacked Poland because one of its guard huts was attacked (except they made that bit up).

So although Saddam hasn't done anything in breach of 1441, and without any proof on the WMD front, the U.S. and U.K. start a war and invade anyway.

And you don't see any kind of problem with that, because it's the sort of thing the Nazi's did, so it's ok.

But why did we care about Poland, and declare war?

...pass the undefended weapons dump, do not collect 3000 tons of explosives. Yep, I see how the game is played now

they were in breach of 1441. They didn't have to take pot shots at US aircraft to be in breach of 1441; it just would have created a nice excuse.

I think it was czechoslovakia (sp?) which was accused of border skirmishes by the nazis.

Do they normally pass memo's to each other discussing various ways of duping the public?

surely the normal black paintscheme is more visible against the sky, as opposed to light colours during the day?

If George Bush is so stupid how come hes managed to get where he is? I think it suits a lot of people to assume he's stupid because it makes it easier for them to rationalise how he gets to shape the world and they don't
