i hope g.w realises how stupid it would be to start a third war. however, i think he will. i dont know what is in iran that he wants, but there is something and mark my words its got very little to do with nuclear weapons.

Taking it to that level would be one of the biggest mistakes possible. We are struggling with Iraq, and look at the trouble that has arisen there. Is attacking iran really going to go much better??

Why is it all down to us(the US) again when the EU 3 are leading the charge?

I doubt the EU want to bomb Iran...they just want Iran to be transparent about their nuclear intentions.

it wouldnt surprise me in the slightest if some backhanders went on to encourage the EU to take the flak for a change as the US already has enough people pissed off at the current two wars. The US fully supports the Iran investigations and Bush certainly has precedent here. In my view the US and the EU are alot closer knit than they let on, although that has the benefit that there wont be a world war anytime soon as between them they would economically cripple any nation that thought about waging war with them.

I think we've had quite enough war for a while, despite the 'organising principles of society' theses of popular conspiracy theorists.

If the USA (no doubt with us lot in wide-eyed tow) even thought about a serious proposition to attack Iran there would be civil unrest on an epic scale, sufficient I think to unseat any incumbent PM or President.

Frankly, I'd be with the pinkos, it would be an action of total lunacy.

I lived through a lot of the "Cold War" and cant remember a time when things have been become so dangerous and strained as now.

During the cold war we had this amazing stalemate between two totally diferent societies and even though they didnt see eye to eye the leaders had regular meetings where they would lay out the red carpet and show respect, great relationships were built and upon them peace prevalied.

There are times when to turn back the clock does no good at all but in this instance maybe we need to look back in order to move forward.

Honestly folks, the Iranian people (a large portion at least) are all for more friendly relation with the West. I really believe the best approach here is to work for internal change. Unlike with Saddam, who had an iron grip on his subjects, the Iranians have enough flexibility and sophistication to pull off a change if given a little traction. Let's hope we can avoid the war and still get the job done.

So why did they vote in Mr I'm-a-dinnerjacket, when one of his main campaign thrusts was to move away from the west?

Possibly because their beliefs are not led by capitolism??

The sad fact is that if there is a war (or indeed the current one) lot of innocent people who are opposed to said actions are the ones who are punished.

Its fair to say that most PHers don't want another war but in the case that WW3 breaks out it'll be them who suffers.

In an ideal world all that would happen is the various goverments would go and have a big fight out back and the one who survives wins. Saves getting us peasants involved.

That's the only reason why they haven't already started the attack.

Only problem is that if Iran continue to be obfuscate their nuclear endeavours they play into GWB's hands. Same tactic he used against Iraq (and poodle boy followed him).

Conflict with Iran is inevitable IMO, unless coole heads prevail, which I doubt.

I'd prefer it was resolved through other means though, oil prices would go through the roof and cripple economies and the current tensions between Europe and Middle east over Islam would probably reach a head and end up in some horrific religious war. I wonder how that cartoonist who started all that would feel, can't imagine knowing you were responsible for a clash of civilisations would be the nicest thing in the world, especially when you were just trying to make some lighthearted humour.

On the plus side it might end up being the cause that drives the search/development for an alternative energy source to oil. Nothing like a good war to advance technological progress by a large margin.

If it's a mistake then Busch will surely make it.
