I was leafing through a copy of GQ yesterday and it had numerous features on clothes and a special on shoes. To say I was shocked at the prices of the gear is an understatement. The cheapest suits were Hugo Boss at £599 (which I will pay, althought you get better suits than Boss for £599), the most expensive £5000. Shoes were the same - from £120 for Loake to £4000 for the serious designer stuff.

Maybe GQ isn't targeted at me (middle class IT job, no kids), but does anyone on here buy the expensive stuff or is GQ like a car magazine where you dream about buying something knowing you cant afford it or wont buy it?

I will admit to reading GQ to see new collections of clothes and chrono-porn, and I have brought many different things ive seen in there that I like - but only after the season has finished and you can pick the stuff up for half price or less..

Loakes should be nearer £70-£80 but I can get them and other good brands like Barkers and Sanders for around £50-£55 from a little shop just off Brick Lane in London

if churchs still have their sale on you can get many of the formal and casual shoes for half price, so around £125-140

I could buy three pairs of Sanders for that.

I have found Sanders to be the best shoes I have ever owned and wear very well. Proper welted sole so can be repaired properly. My first pair have been worn every working day (i know I should alternate them with a second pair)for the nearly two years about 5 miles a day and still look good after a polish and are just due their first resole
