i just want a real road atlas, you know one showing the proper counties not those Political (artificial) ones, but the real geographical ones, after all when out and about i want to know where i am geographically not Politically!

If it was "how can I find a real man?" that would be a giveaway on two counts!

not at all it's just that i would like to know what real county i was in and not the artificial council county, ie maps show west yorksire when in reality it's west riding, westmoreland, rutland etc, i am not interested in the political counties run by local councils and all i ask is a geographical atlas of Great Britain and i can't seem to find one believe it or not, all i can find is an atlas telling me i am in whatever councils administration area as if i need to know that for gods sake, i just want to know where i am please but it seems impossible to find out nowadays, why?, is it a case of Politics overruling tradition and identity

nope, just the real historical counties as marked on a road atlas please instead of those mumbo jumbo artificial council areas, not too much to ask really

Better get your skates on before Prescott relegates us to the Region of That Bit At The End....

I think your best bet is to get a pre-197whateveritwas atlas to the same scale as a modern one, and trace the county boundaries across (or trace the roads across the other way, but that'd be a lot more hassle).

If Stanfords can't help you're probably out of luck.

thank you raffles but have been there but they are out of date, I need an up to date Geographical Road Atlas showing the Geographical Counties as I would like to know where I am and not who administers a particular area as that's of no interest to me

Yep. But I've just got this feeling that in a week you'll be posting something like "where can I find a map with roads and towns on it?"
