All very silly, but will they be able to understand our response or will they see it as passionless reaction towards our God.

Very amusing, i suppose if a Dutch newspaper is allowed to print offensive images then why shouldn't the Iranian's. Of course i can see the West looking hypocritical when Israel go ballistic (probably literally) with Iran.

cnn article said:
The paper disclosed its plan to hold the competition in an inside page on Monday, saying it would announce details on Tuesday. But Tuesday's edition said the plans would be published next Monday.

Meanwhile, state television reported Tuesday that Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki had called his Danish counterpart, Per Stig Moeller, and urged Copenhagen and other European governments to "compensate for their mistake" in publishing the drawings.
I'm not sure I really understand this. The Danish have to "compensate" for their "mistake" but the Iranians are holding a competition to make the same "mistake." Presumerably the Israelis will be offered compensation by the Iranians afterwards?

I think this whole thing has gone into the bounds of absurdity, lets see how many Jews are burning Iranian embassies worldwide and calling for Iranians to be beheaded.

Isn't attacking an embassy an act of war? Surely the Danes should declare war on Iran, Indonesia and Lebanon for a laugh.

I dont think Isreal will react, the way its looking to me is like Iran are spoiling for a fight all time, and this is a country that wants to go Nuclear for energy .

This will either "blow over" or Iran are going to jump in with both feet at some stage, they are acting like an out of control little upstart thats trying to box above their wieght at the moment, and if they are not careful are up for a good slap.
Lets hope it blows over for the sake of decent Iranians.

Indeed the Iranian situation is not looking good at the moment, they are coming very close to being pre-emptively bombed i imagine.

The wests reaction will be a rueful shake of the head. I doubt the Iranian embassies are going to be petrol bombed, we're too busy getting on with our lives. The Israelis might get a bit arsey but even they have more immediate concerns than some silly sketches appearing in a newspaper!

Look at how badly that turned out in Iraq, though. Bombing Iran will just make ordinary decent Iranians believe that their government is telling them the truth when they say the West wants to invade and kill all their children. After, all, don't Danish people eat babies daily for lunch? etc etc.

Lord knows how you communicate with a population other than your own effectively but historically it hasn't worked.

If they fire up a Nuclear Reactor, though, the shit is seriously going to hit the fan.

Odd that, given that the cartoons were first published way before the Palestinian elections.

How can they possibly compare mockery of a god and religion, to mockery of the deaths of approximately 6 million people?

Retards.

I'm impressed - clairvoyant Israelis - knew in November that Hamas was going to win!

As for Iran...hardly punching above it's weight, it's got, IIRC, the 4th or 5th largest standing army in the world. But they ARE itching for a fight, as they believe that if the US/NATO retaliates against them, it'll strengthen both their position in the Arab world AND the division between the West and Islam.
