Britain's deepest sleeper?

Thieves cut their way into the back of a truck and stole 200 miniature dirt bikes - without waking the sleeping driver.

They used acetylene burners to break into the truck at a motorway service station on the M4 near Newbury, Berkshire.

The lorry driver, who was travelling from Southampton to Clitheroe in Lancashire, was fast asleep in his cabin.

He did not suspect anything until he had woken up and driven more than five miles up the road and noticed something "felt wrong".

He stopped to check his container - only to find thieves had made off with 200 Hymoto Dirt Rider miniature dirt bikes.

Hymoto managing-director Stephen Tasker said: "This is one of the stranger cases of its kind that I've ever heard of.

"For thieves to work unseen and so quietly and take away such a volume of goods is quite astonishing.

"And as for the trucker who managed to sleep through the whole thing, he should be awarded the title of the UK's deepest sleeper."

"Britain's biggest backhander" may be more appropriate.

My dad slept through an electricity sub-station blowing up about 10m away from his bedroom window when he was about 11, the 6 fire-engines and countless jam-sandwiches didn't wake him up either.

The night john paul I died I was holidaying on Lake Garda with my parents, camping on a terrace. The valley witnessed what the locals described as the worst storm in a lifetime, the rain was so heavy that it caused a running stream about 6 inches deep around my camp bed, the lightning was nearly constant and very bright, thunder rolled around the hills in a very loud fashion, and the wall that retained the terrace upon which we were camped split away from the earth of the terrace leaving a gap about 3 feet wide and about 80 feet long - I was rather annoyed that they'd allowed me to sleep through it.

I slept through the 1987 storm even though two 70 foot trees blew over about 20 feet from my bedroom window.

It amazes me how people can sleep through noise, I tend to wake up quite easily, unless I am drunk that is

i once slept through a lightning strike on my mom and dad's house, i was eventually woken by a fireman checking my room because the alarm had shorted and called the fire station as designed.
