Britney's baby worries

Britney Spears has defended her actions after she was caught with her baby on her lap while driving.

The singer says she was trying to escape a group of paparazzi.

Britney was forced to issue a statement in response to the media frenzy reports Glamour magazine.

She said: "I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby.

"I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harms way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us, which were sold to the media.

"I love my child and would do anything to protect him."

Britney gave birth to Sean Preston in September last year.

Poor thing was stressed - the baby was meant to go in the glove compartment while I sat on her lap

I get a little tired over this sort of thing.
Sure its not safe, but remember that until not that long ago it was common practice. There are lots of things that increase risk to a child and this is just one of them, demonising it above other risky actions is not sensible.

After all she might have been doing 40 in a 30!

I don't thnk it was ever common practice to drive a car with a 6 month old baby on your lap.

Oh yes it was. How do you think the bulk of young mothers carried their kids around pre the emphasis on child seats?

Apparantly when I was only a few months old I would be in a papoose strapped to my Mum who'd be on the back of my Dad's 250cc motorbike.

I'm sorry, I still don't believe that it was common practice. I can well believe a baby being on the backseat in their moses basket, but not on the mothers lap whilst driving.

But if you say so, I'm only 31 so I'm not old enough to argue the point

It's not that bad surely? She probably did want to just drive off rather than fiddle with straps for five minutes while being badgered. It's not like she was dangling the kid off a balcony or microwaving him or anything.

Well I have vague memories from the sixties of one of my Aunts breastfeeding her kid whilst driving! They say women are good at multitasking.
Quiet roads in them days, particularly in the sticks.

maybe she should of handed the child to her passenger?

absolutely no excuse.

Do you know how much a six month old can wriggle about?

Things were different in the 70s in that there were simply much fewer cars on the road.
