I've just realised that my passport expires at the and of November and I'm off to the US in March. Do you still need six months left on it if you're travelling on a visa waiver?

If you have time, get a new one. It is legally six months, but going through immigration in the US (even if you have a valid visa) is such an unpleasant process its not worth the hassle.

I've just discovered I've either got to get a new passport or pay £60+ for a US visa when I visit in November, I've been loads of times before on my existing passport - why the sudden change. Grrrr

Oooh this is a good one. I'm not sure what the official answer is but...

a bunch of us went to Florida whilst at Uni and only on the return journey did a check-in attendant notice my friend's passport (ginge on PH) was expired 6 months back. They phoned UK customs at Heathrow who kindly said they would "let him back in again". I don;t think we actually cam across passport control, or they certainly didn't notice.

Remember, humans are only 80% accurate at checking things...
