HAs anybody here flown with Ryanair to Barcelona? They fly into Girona, how far is that from the city centre?

Edited to add:

If anybody can suggest any nice (but cheapish) hotels for the weekend that'd be great!

Girona is about 60 miles ish north of Barcelona IIRC. I've always flown in on Easyjet to the main Barc. airport with easy train connections straight into the city centre.

I've stayed at a good cheap basic Hotel just North of the Ramblas , quiet location..... I'll see if I can dig out the name for you ( can't remember right now )

Bloody far.
We went On my stag a few years ago.
There is a shuttle bus into the centre of Barcelona.
When we went everyone bought those £60 lottery tickets in the hope of winning an Aston Martin, and then forgot them on the flight.
By the time we'd been aloowed to retrieve them the bus had gone.

Cue 2 x Euro140 MPVs to get us to Barcelona rather than wait for the next bus in 4 hours time.

I understand Easyjet fly into Barcelona - much better idea.

If you can, fly to El Prat - at about 8 miles IIRC, its way closer than Girona. Direct train links from the airport right into the heart of Barcelona.

My girlfriend and I stayed here;

www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g187497-d289670-Reviews-Gran_Hotel_Torre_Catalunya-Barcelona_Catalonia.html

A really nice hotel and a short subway ride from the town centre. Subway tickets are €2 each but you can get a discount if you buy a number of rides. Their system is much better than the UK.

The hotel has a full 360 degree view from the restaurant on the top floor, very swanky.

Is this from most airports? I'm not too fussed about a bus ride to be honest, having to try and keep costs down so I'm more then happy to fly Ryanair

train is from the main airport ( El prat )........ Is Ryanair *really* cheaper when you take the long conncecting journey into account ? and several hours lost from your short break ? and no refund or other flight when the plane doesn't turn up ?

( I had a late flight back from Barc. with EasyJet once , there was a delay so they put on another plane flown in from Luton to put people on ....... Ryanair would NEVER do that , it'd be "tough luck we'll fly you home on the next flight in 4 days time " )

It's about a £140 difference, which means the hotel can be better and we'd be able to get a hire car if the bus journey seems too much like hard work. The flight times are actually better then with EasyJet (the flights I'm looking at with EJ are the cheapest but stupid flight times!!)

It's more like the choice is between RyanAir or a break somewhere in this country really. Did you happen to find that hotel you mentioned earlier?

There are buses waiting at the 'airport' (more like a shed with a strip of tarmac beside it!) and from memory the trip is about an hour and takes you to the city centre.

We also stayed at the Gran Hotel Torre catalunya, its just outside the main station and very easy to get to Las Ramblas. One tip I would give is to Definetley do the open top bus tour. Its 17 euros each and you get to see everything... you can get on and off all day with the same ticket (it even goes to the camp!
