I see a lot of people link their smilies from other sources. Just imagine if that webside changed the picture to something less favourable
Has this ever happened as revenge for stealing bandwidth?

Open a photobucket account. Copy the smilies you find to it. Give the account a password, so other people can't change the smilies for shits and giggles.
