Any recruitment consultants out there? advice wanted!
Discussion
I'm currently a supervisor of a valuations team for a city fund manager but desperately need a career change.
Basically, what do you think of your lines of work? Is it relatively easy to get into without experience? What sort of salary (basic and OTE) would I be looking at for starter and also after a couple of years?
I've dealt with a lot of consultants in my time, some cowboys and some top peeps, and it seems like it'd make a pleasant change from where I am now.
Any advice wouold be much appreciated.

If you can afford to take a pay drop for a year i would say go for it - if you stick to a specialist desk that you already know about I.E Funds valuations you could be earning a lot more quickly post training - have you tried approaching the good eggs that you already know for some advice - Half the battle will be finding a good agency to work for...
I've enjoyed 10 years in recruitment and cannot see me making a change too quickly - i earn well and it can be hard to walk away from that - anything else just give me a shout or PM me...

I fully understand that it would mean a big drop in basic salary, but I would hope that with the right company this would be more than made up for with commission after settling in period. I also realise it's very much a sales orientated job!
Steve, thanks for the info, I've written to a large agency today (Nigel Lynn) in order to gain some advice and feedback. Ideally I'm trying to move my career out of the city but would still want to recruit within a Financial services background, though that wouldn't neccessarily be investment banking.
If I need any more info I'll be in touch.

Zipee, see some of my previous threads/responses re helping other PH'ers. Nigel Lynn are a small/medium finance agency with a questionable reputation (IMHO) and certainly unable to help within the city environs. I would suggest you speak to a search firm if interested. Base salries are high with £200,000k + OTE's. If you would like to PM me I shall give you a list of decent search firms. I would think that you could use your background within fund management to recriut and headhunt with that market. A very lucrative one in the city with the right business. Regards
