Just wondering, all year round there seems to be a constant stream of DFS sale adverts on tv. Have they ever not had a sale on? Surely it would be some much simpler to just have lower prices?

"No one does a sale like DFS" - I'm not surprised, they've had so much practise at it!

They have to have the sale items on sale for at least 6 months at full retail price AFAIK before they can be classed as 'sale price'.

I konw this does'nt answer your querie but it answers another question. Thats why they always have things on sale, the crafty shits.

Thats not relevant though, my thread is totally different - that was at a time when sales should be on. With DFS, its just stupid!

I used to work for an expensive interior fabric company. We constantly had the MTM fabrics on sale, and when they brought in that rule, we had them on rotation, so the designs were split into 6 groups, and one month group A would be full price, with the rest reduced, the next month group B would be full price while the others were reduced, and so on.

I think you've all missed something extremely important. Apparently the latest one is different to previous sales because it's "the best ever sale".

I bought a couple of sofas at DFS five years ago and they are still going strong and looking good. No complaints here.

They're always trying to offload whatever unsaleable stock they couldn't flog earlier, usually because it was too tasteless and overpriced anyway. They make it look all enticing on telly but the reality is that if you seek out a properly cheap deal with them you'll go home with a baroque button-backed magnolia leather nightmare straight from the set of Dallas.

Ebay's not a bad place for furniture retailers. You can quite often pick up decent designer stuff from online retailers who don't charge hefty premiums, simply because they don't have to employ Linda Barker or Frank Bruno, or keep a showroom glossy, or employ large numbers of staff, they'll just have a warehouse and a truck.

Anything that's over-advertised is bound to be crap tbh.

Yes and No. From inception to sale, the business plan is to sell everything at the sale price, interest free for three years with one years deferred payments. The original price is an irrelevance, your not really supposed to be buying it at that price, they will sell it to you if you insist, but will probably think you are an idiot. The start price is just that, a start price, it has to be offered at a higher price to qualify as a sale price. Its just their business model, does make you wonder why they dont just do the low price all year around without the sale tag, like one of the major electrical retailers does who never have a sale, just low prices.

Yep this is all spot on, their plan was a bit like the officers club, (before they got wrapped round the knuckles by trading standards for the "permenant sale". They only sold stuff at full price in their oxford street store, as a product needs to be at full price for 28 days before it can be sold as a "sale" item.

Most items you see on sale with "printed" ticket to that effect (i.e not handwritten, were destined to be on sale, and were start of the company merchandise plan from the off.
