Quick Q for the techno-whizzes

I have connected my laptop to my new TV.....fine, picture comes up and is crystal clear....all works fine until i try and play video clips....they show up on the PC screen but only show as a blank black square on the TV....why? The player opens fine and you can see everything else....its the same in 'real player' and in windows media player.... Is it simply a question of a setting being wrong? if so can you advise me please as I have the computing abilities of Fred Flintstone.......

Try turning off the laptop screen (should be Func+F5 or similar) - the video should then appear on the external monitor. Some cards seem to have problems playing video on 2 different screens simultaneously.

Alternatively, updated drivers from the card manufacturer's website might sort it.
